Best yet turkey burgers.

We grilled out last night. I mixed the turkey burgers. Each time we make it, it's different. Well, this last batch was the "best yet." Not sure what was different about this version, but it was yummy! We usually use ground turkey, but this should work with ground beef as well. The oatmeal may sound odd to add, but it added great texture. Here's a best guestimate of the amounts of ingredients used, if you are interested.

1 pound 99% fat free ground turkey
one egg
1 cup instant oatmeal
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped fresh mushrooms
2 tablespoons teriyaki marinade

Mix all ingredients together. I use my hands. Form into patties. Place on grill and cook. Place cheese on burger to melt. Place buns, open side down, in grill to toast.

I made a mushroom and onion mix to place on top of the burger.

2 cups fresh sliced mushrooms (I just used the rest of the container)
1 onion, sliced (used the rest of the onion)
1 tablespoon or so of Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (or oil of your choice)

Place in small saucepan. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until onions are soft. Place on burger.

Taking a study break. I'm reviewing A&P lectures. It's raining and thundering. Would be a perfect day to vegetate....but no vegetables for me. Instead I'm loading up on coffee and learning stuff. Lucky me.

Later,
Jennie

Wow, I use oatmeal in my meatloaf/classy burgers also! I tend to use ground beef thou...I guess Sisters cannot be completely alike! I wonder if Mom ever used oatmeal?

The girls love the classy burgers. Mine are very similar, but I add bbq sauce instead of the t sauce...must be a northern thing, or southern thing?
